A few weeks ago, I mentioned that we would be moving. At the time I didn't have a lot of details. Well, I have them now, and it's time for me to share them.
We're moving back to Ohio! Not exactly back to where we were before, but not super far either. We will be living in a suburb of Cleveland. It's pretty centrally located between our families (a little over an hour to Ed's, about 2 to mine) The super exciting part? We're renting a HOUSE! A whole house! After sharing walls and ceilings/floors with other people for over 10 years, we get an entire space to ourselves. We're pretty stoked.
As for Chicago, I'm really glad we gave it a shot. Living in a REAL city has always been on my life list. It's a great place to live. A lot of people love it here. I found that although I can deal with city life, I'm more of a rural/suburbs kind of gal.
A funny thing - I've had family and acquaintances ask, "What suburb of Chicago do you live in?" I tend to get a little bristly at that question! Our apartment is 4 miles from Michigan Ave. I can see all of the giant landmark buildings when I'm out walking Dottie. It is assumed that because we don't live downtown (and, really, I don't know a single person who does), that we don't live IN Chicago. We do! I promise! Give us credit, we really did live in an actual city for (almost) a year!
best of luck with your move! i am feeling the itch myself, having been in an apartment a little over two years. i would love to find a small house for my sister and i to rent but they seem hard to find. i'm hoping we can find a nice townhouse!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think we got kind of lucky. We had appointments to see a couple of others, but they were snapped up before we could get over there to look at them (it's about a 5 hour drive from here to CLE). We spotted this one on a real estate website while we were in the area and were lucky enough to get an appointment to view it. We were thinking about a townhouse, but there aren't very many available to rent around there! Good luck with your search!
DeleteHOW in the world did you live 4 miles from Michigan Ave and not wind up with 40,000 in credit card debt?? ;) I have fond memories of taking weekend trips up there from Purdue. You are definitely in the city!!
ReplyDeleteThere are SO many tempting stores on Michigan Ave., but honestly I like shopping on State St. more! The stores there are more my speed.
DeleteChicago is tough. I had to warm up to it and it took a couple of years, to be honest. I'm glad I had college here that forced me to stay and give it a shot. It's great that you guys took that chance though! When do you move back?
ReplyDeleteI think it might have been different if we were here for school or moved here in our early 20s. We will definitely be back to visit! We're moving during the last week of September.
